Carpets thrive on regular care. Your carpets take a daily challenge from you, your family and any household pets. Contaminants, not all immediately visible, are continually dropped on them including, dead skin, food spillages, general dust and pollutants from the outside traffic and air.
There is little you can do to avoid most of this but there is a great deal you can do to minimize the effect!
Regular care and preventative measures will give your carpet years of service. This brief guide will explain how to keep your carpets looking fresh for many years:
Preventative measures
This will help catch much of the transitory soils that come in with your shoes. Mats will also help prevent those unsightly darker areas near your doors.
Regular attention
Slow movements from left to right, right to left etc. Upright ‘brush and beater bar’ vacuum cleaners are the most effective.
Major and periodic professional cleaning Most carpet manufacturers recommend that carpets be cleaned at least every 12-18 months. This will depend on factors such as the number of people living in the house, whether pets contribute to soiling and also on the occupations of the householders!
A thorough deep clean will help remove the dirt accumulated in depth, rejuvenate your carpets and make them look as good as the day they were laid down. Should regular cleaning not take place, the dirt and grit will penetrate deep into the pile and contribute to wearing in the traffic areas. These areas then become worn and darkened. This scenario is often difficult to fully reverse.
Stains Although every stain is unique, there are a number of things that always remain the same. At ‘Roger’s’ we want you to have the best chance of removing a stain completely from a carpet, rug or your soft furnishings.
We have produced the following guide:
1. Remove any excess liquid / solids scooping up from the base of the carpet with a spoon. 2. Blot the area (DO NOT RUB) with a slightly damp towel/cloth several times until no more dirt/ stain transfer onto cloth then blot the area with dry towel/cloth absorbing the dampened area dry the remainder with a hairdryer (if you wish) this will prevent leaving a water mark.
PLEASE DO NOT USE PROPRIETORY CLEANERS some of these cleaners contain bleaching agents and when dry leave unsightly white ringed marks which can be very difficult for us and most professional carpet cleaner to totally remove the foamy/shampoo spotter that you may have used.
If you require more assistance as certain stains/spillages will need complete rinsing with specialist equipment to totally eradicate the affected area please do not hesitate in contacting us.
This guide is no guarantee of removing stains /spillages but may assist you or us if you should call us to completely remove the affected area,it just leaves us to deal with whats left of the stain rather than the stain and a horrible foamy residue.
